There’s skiing.

And then there’s disappearing into the Norwegian wilderness with a pair of skis, a pack and a lot of empty space ahead of you.

This month, Swell Seekers Africa is heading north.

Norway. Cross-country skis. Mountains. Cabins. Snow. Adventure.

No chairlifts. No queues. No crowded resorts.

Just you, your skis and one of the wildest winter landscapes in Europe.

THIS IS NORWAY DIFFERENTLY

When most people think about a ski holiday, they picture lifts, pistes, hotels and après bars.

This isn’t that trip.

Cross-country skiing in Norway is about travelling through the landscape rather than skiing up and down the same mountain.

We move across frozen valleys, through snow-covered forests and into huge open mountain country. Some days are about covering distance. Others are about slowing down, taking in the surroundings and enjoying the fact that there’s almost nobody else around.

SKI. EXPLORE. EAT. SLEEP. REPEAT.

The beauty of this trip is its simplicity.

Wake up somewhere surrounded by snow.

Eat.

Get the skis on.

Then head out.

We spend the day moving through the Norwegian winter landscape, stopping for food, coffee and whatever we find along the way before reaching our destination for the night.

Warm up. Eat properly. Have a drink. Get some sleep.

Then do it again.

It’s not complicated — and that’s exactly the point.

A PROPER PHYSICAL ADVENTURE

Cross-country skiing will make you work.

You don’t need to be an Olympic Nordic skier, but you do need to arrive ready for an active trip.

There will be long days outside. There will be climbs. There will probably be a few crashes. The weather might be perfect, or Norway might decide to remind us who's in charge.

That’s all part of it.

This trip is for people who would rather earn the view than take a lift to it.

CABINS, FIRES & NORWEGIAN MOUNTAIN LIFE

One of the best parts happens when the skis come off.

Norway has an incredible mountain culture, and spending time in cabins surrounded by snow is a huge part of the experience.

After a full day outside, very little beats getting inside somewhere warm, pulling off your boots, eating a massive meal and sitting around talking absolute rubbish about what happened during the day.

Simple things become very good things.

Hot coffee.

Warm food.

A cold beer.

Dry socks.

A fire.

A bed.

You start appreciating life pretty quickly.

WHY NORWAY?

Because cross-country skiing isn't something Norway adopted for tourists.

It’s part of the culture.

Norwegians have been travelling through their winter landscapes on skis for generations, and the country has an enormous network of routes, trails and mountain huts that make it one of the best places in the world to experience Nordic skiing.

But the real reason we love it?

Space.

Huge landscapes. Frozen lakes. Mountains disappearing into the distance. Snow-covered forests. Tiny settlements. Long stretches where you might barely see another person.

It feels properly remote without having to travel to the end of the earth.

MORE THAN JUST SKIING

Like every Swell Seekers Africa trip, we’re not interested in flying halfway around the world just to do one thing.

We want to experience Norway.

That means Norwegian food, local towns, mountain culture, cabins, saunas where we can find them, a few beers, ridiculous amounts of coffee and plenty of exploring away from the skis.

The skiing gets us there.

Everything around it makes the trip.

WHO IS THIS TRIP FOR?

This isn't about being the fastest skier in the group.

It's for adventurous people who are reasonably fit, enjoy being outside and aren't scared of getting a little uncomfortable.

You should be able to laugh when you fall over.

You should be happy spending a full day outside.

And you should understand that sometimes the best trips involve frozen fingers, tired legs and wondering why the hell you agreed to this — right before deciding you'd do it all again tomorrow.

Perfect.

THIS IS SWELL SEEKERS AFRICA

We started with surf.

But the idea was never supposed to stop at the ocean.

Swell Seekers Africa is about going further to find experiences worth travelling for.

Sometimes that means chasing waves through Africa.

Sometimes it means hunting powder in Japan.

And sometimes it means clipping into a pair of cross-country skis and disappearing across Norway.

Different country.

Different adventure.

Same mentality.

SKI. EAT. EXPLORE. REPEAT.

🇳🇴 NORWAY IS WAITING.

Cross-country skiing. Wild landscapes. Mountain cabins. Good food. Big days.

Explore further.
